More Poems About Death
Born famous
He’s shorter than you’d expect.
Makes the scythe,
that big steel smile,
look huge.
He’s wearing Maria Callas
as a cloak.
James Dean’s been turned
into a hat.
Are those Jim Morrison earrings?
He’s smoking Kurt Cobain!
Sharpish teeth. Lost some.
The bigger ones
Fight back.
Funny-looking eyes.
A bit glassy. Deep.
He’s staring now.
“Is this yours?” I ask
He says it is
And takes it.

Farewell
Perhaps I should have been there
When you took your leave
Even unwelcome guests deserve
A cordial parting wave.
Perhaps I should have come
To watch you go,
But I was elsewhere, living,
When you went
And you did not look back
You did not see me
At the gate
Where I stood
Writing this
Farewell

Immortal
What if
that final flash of life
eternal seemed
And we
beyond memory
an endless future dreamed
Knowing
that ours was the measure
of all time
And in that instant
cashed in our being
to become sublime.

Tick
Somehow
Time’s delicate illusion
Slips away
Sifting destiny
Past forgotten
